MakeReady

FAQ

Answers to the most common questions about MakeReady. The full documentation lives under Documentation.

What is MakeReady?

An open scoring platform for practical shooting matches and trainings: IPSC Handgun, FDS, LVR and Multigun. Match management and registrations happen in the portal, scoring happens on tablets (also without internet), results appear live on scoreboards on the range and through an open API that club portals can integrate with.

How do I get started?

  1. Create an account with your email address. The same account works on the tablets.
  2. Optionally create your club under Clubs and add members, Range Officers (staff) and other admins by email address.
  3. Create a match or a training from the portal: pick the type, a discipline, dates and visibility. Matches and trainings are listed separately. You can organise it yourself or on behalf of a club you administer.
  4. Add stages (targets, par time, briefing) and competitors, or let your club portal push the registrations through the API.
  5. Set the match to live: Range Officers download it on their tablets and score it, online or offline.
  6. Follow the standings live on the scoreboard; set the match to finished to publish the final results.

Who can see what?

Visibility is set per match: public (everyone), club (members of the organising club) or private (staff, admins and the organiser). Competitors linked to an account always find their own results under "My results".

Does MakeReady remember my competitors?

Yes. Every competitor you register is remembered for your club (or for you, for an event without a club) with club, division, power factor and categories, so the next time you start typing a name the form completes it. Clubs only ever see their own list; nothing is shared between clubs.

Where are the scoring rules?

The rules of each discipline are managed centrally by the MakeReady admin and are versioned. Signed-in users can read them under Rules; tablets sync them automatically. A match copies the rules when it is created, so a rules change never alters a running match. Details: Scoring rules.

Which disciplines are supported?

IPSC Handgun and FDS (Comstock), LVR (Comstock, minor only), Multigun (time plus with zone times) and Shootoff. A shootoff is a double elimination bracket: register the shooters or teams, press Start once before the first round, then tap the winner of every bout; the live scoreboard shows the bracket. Details: Scoring rules.

How does the tablet work without internet?

Yes. A Range Officer signs in with the same e-mail and password as on this website; the tablet remembers the account, so without internet the same credentials sign in offline and a bar at the top of the app says so. Approved scores are queued and synchronised the moment the tablet reaches MakeReady again. On a range without any internet, one tablet can act as the local hub: the other tablets on the same Wi-Fi share their scores and the live panel through it, and it forwards everything to MakeReady later. Details: Sync and offline and Live scoreboards.

Can my club portal manage the registrations?

Yes. A club admin creates an API key; the club portal pushes squads and registrations and can read results or receive signed webhooks when scores are approved. Details: Club portal integration.

Which shot timers are supported?

Manual time entry works everywhere. A Bluetooth adapter for the Shooters Global SG Timer is in progress; more timers follow. Details: Shot timers.
